7.1 Employment of Staff

  1. The board hires employees to fill all staff positions.
  2. The board should provide a job description for each staff position where appropriate. The job description states the responsibilities and authority of the position.
  3. The board and the members must pass a by-law or a special resolution if they want to employ an outside agency to provide management services.
  4. A permanent full-time employee cannot live in the co-op.

7.2 Supervision of Staff

  1. The board shall supervise and direct the senior employee of the Co-op. The board shall appoint a director as Staff Liaison Officer and the Staff Liaison Officer shall serve as the Board’s representative in all dealings with the senior employee. Any consents, notices, disciplinary actions, supervision and directions shall normally be given by the Staff Liaison officer.
  2. The senior employee shall be responsible for the supervision of all the employees of the Co-op, as well as contract labourers and tradespeople and for recommending to the board the appointment and removal of and the rates or salaries to be paid to them. The senior employee shall at all times be subject to instructions of the board. The senior employee shall at all reasonable times give the Board and meetings of members any information requested regarding the affairs of the Co-op.
  3. Where any duties of the officers of the co-op referred to in Article 6 have been given to employees, the employees shall liaise with the relevant officers with respect to those duties.
